CURRENT HERESIES:
We have added four more articles to
this section. Two are on the Sabbath and two are on the subject of Christmas.
They are related. The first two, Sabbath I
and Sabbath II, are about observing and
keeping holy that which God has commanded. The second two, Pagan
Holydays I and Pagan Holydays II,
on Christmas, are
about not observing unscriptural holydays that God never commanded and that are based
on pagan traditions that are condemned in his word.
THEOLOGY OF THE GREAT
PROTESTANT REFORMATION:
Having done the history of the Reformation and the Roman Catholic
theology that required such a reformation we proceed to cover the theology of
the Reformation. Our first title is Vindiciae
Contra Tyrannos a Biblical defense of subjects rising up against their
oppressors in the cause of civil and religious liberty. In the future we plan,
Lord willing, to do such titles as Luther's, "The Bondage of the Will,"
John Owen's, "The Death of Death in the Death of Christ," and
Lorraine Boettner's, "The Reformed Doctrine of Predestination."
ROMAN CATHOLIC THEOLOGY:
Having completed, for now, a large section on Reformation history, we have set
up a new section on Roman Catholic theology. This will complement the section on
Reformation history and establish why a Reformation was so desperately needed.
Currently we have two titles in this section. They are as follows...
Alexander Hislop's, "The Two Babylons,"
which is an expose of the pagan nature and origin of almost everything that Rome
believes that is not in the Bible. It clearly establish that the essence of
Roman Catholicism is pagan, that it is the same as the ancient religion of
Babylon.
Lorraine Boettner's, "Roman Catholicism,"
is the classic, standard work on the subject of what do Roman Catholics believe.
It is thorough review, analysis, and Biblical refutation of Roman Catholic
theology. It is must reading if you want to understand what Rome teaches. It is
particularly essential reading if you want to effectively debate, discus, and
witness to your Roman Catholic friends, neighbors, and co-workers.
REFORMATION HISTORY:
We have a new section of the website that is dedicated to the History
of the Great Protestant Reformation. As time permits, Lord
willing, we will be scanning onto the website some of the great classics of
Reformation history. We have already completed Martyn's, A
History of the Huguenots, and Gillett's, The
Life and Times of John Huss, as well as Blackburn's biography of William
Farel. We have also completed McCrie's Life of Knox
and D'Augigne's, History of the Reformation in
England, as well as Church's excellent
biography of Oliver Cromwell
which is must reading for lovers of history and of Christian statesmen and
champions of liberty that God has raised up.
Most recently we have posted a biography of Theodore Beza and Motley's Rise of the Dutch Republic. The latter is an especially inspiring account of the reformation in the Netherlands and how it gave rise to one of the great Calvinist republics in history.
In the future, Lord willing, we plan to post D'Aubigne's History of the Reformation in the Sixteenth Century in Germany and Switzerland, McCrie's Life of Melville, Knox's History of the Reformation in Scotland, and perhaps Beza's Life of Calvin. We hope that this will become a significant resource for the study of the Reformation and make available to the Lord's people books that have been out of print and unavailable for so long. If funds permit at some future time we would like to publish hard copy books of these titles. These books not only give us the details of the great works of God in that age, but being written by godly men of faith about heroic men of the faith, they inspire the reader by precept and example. A knowledge of these events and of these men would do much to contribute to a much needed reformation of the church in our day and would be an antidote to the shallow evangelicalism that has been the bane of American Christianity.
New Articles:
A new series of articles has been launched that
deal with Current Heresies and theological errors that are troubling
Presbyterian and Reformed churches. The following have been posted and more will
be forthcoming on other issues, D.V.
The
Framework Hypothesis:
The Framework Hypothesis is an alternate way of understanding and
interpreting Genesis 1 and 2, the creation account. This
article gives an overview of the Framework Hypothesis, sets forth the
theological dangers of this view, and explains why it is not an tolerable error
separating brethren, but a serious heresy that the church needs to reject.
The New
Perspective On Paul:
The New Perspective on Paul is am alternate way of understanding
Paul's gospel that totally redefines the historic Protestant understanding of
what justification by faith means. How this doctrine subverts the gospel
of Jesus Christ, confuses the sheep, and paves the way for even more destructive
heresies is all plainly set forth in this article. That this is a heretical view
being promoted by false teachers is the conclusion that the article is
inexorably driven to.
Auburn Avenue Theology:
This is an article by Brian Schwertley explaining what the Auburn
Avenue Theology really is and expounding how it is a denial of the historic
faith of the Great Protestant Reformation and constitutes a denial of
justification by faith, substituting a confused theology that holds forth some
kind of sacerdotal salvation based on faith and works.
Open Theism:
Open Theism is the heresy that God does not know the future (hence it
is open, that is undetermined) because God cannot know the unknowable and the
future free will choices of free moral agents can not be known. God therefore
has limited control over the future but is able to accomplish his main purposes
even though many things happen that he has no control over. This heresy is an
extreme form of Arminian free-will and constitutes faith in a totally different
God than the awesome sovereign God of Calvinism.
The
Christian Self-Help Movement:
This movement emphasizes the latest breakthroughs and secret keys to
successful Christian living at the expense of the Biblical means of grace and
the peace, joy and contentment that comes from trusting God and having faith in
the gospel of Jesus Christ. It becomes an exercise in fads, where deluded and
spiritually unfulfilled persons are exploited by religious hucksters with the
latest spiritual gimmicks that promise a successful and prosperous Christian
life.
History of Presbyterianism in
America:
We have now completed the serialization Carl McIntire's, The
Death of a Church, documenting
the ongoing apostasy of the PCUSA after the exodus of the conservatives, and as
formalized in the new Confession of Faith of 1967. Reviews of these books
are on the Church History Books
page. This completes this section for now. Additional books that we would
like to present are still under copyright and our letters requesting permission
to post them on this website have generally gone unanswered.
Sermons:
A new sermon has been posted entitled Fishers of
Men It
is a presbytery sermon preached at Presbytery on September 24, 2005. It deals with
the fact that only God can make us fishers of men, that God in his sovereignty
determines how he uses the testimony of the church, and that all we can do is
faithfully proclaim his word. It deals with the spiritual state of America, the
requirements for any national reformation, and the future prospects for the
American Presbyterian Church.
Presbytery Minutes:
I am no longer Clerk of Presbytery and due to my cancer have been unable to
attend Presbytery meetings. As a result these reports are somewhat behind, and
will remain so until I have the health and the time to bring them up to
date.
